How often do we try to figure something out? I mean literally, it is probably twenty or more times a day!
Which direction should we take to get there the quickest? Which exit has the least amount of traffic? Did the comment that person make imply they are angry or frustrated with me, or are they just having a bad day? If I eat that cupcake or doughnut now, how many miles will I have to run to work off the calories? And the list goes on and on…and that is only the first couple hours of our day!
I can be exhausted mentally by the time I get to work in the morning, and my day has only just begun! And those are just the small issues of life, the every day circumstances.
What happens when the big issues hit? The loss or hospitalization of a loved one.
A devastating accident or debilitating illness. A job or career change or loss. The betrayal of a friend or family member. What do we do? Where do we turn?
We must turn to the only true hope we have. We must hold tight to Jesus!
We must lean on the words that we have heard since we were young. The words that are true no matter how big or how small our issues may be!
“Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so, little ones to him belong, they are weak but He is strong! Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, The Bible tells me so!”
As we repeat those words over and over to ourselves, the peace of God which surpasses all understanding seems to flood over us and cover us like a warm soft blanket. We feel comfort and we feel hope from these simple words of truth! We realize the wisdom our mothers displayed as they rocked us and sang these simple words of truth to us. We feel the tenderness and compassion our grandmothers had as they held us tight and comforted us with these simple words of truth. And even now, as we are all grown up, we feel God’s Spirit of love bring comfort, peace, and hope to our every situation at the mention of this simple children’s song.
God quietly whispers to us,
“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son, that who so ever believes in him shall never die, but shall have everlasting Life.”
John 3:16
We realize once again that our circumstances pale in comparison to God’s great love for us!
Today, no matter where this blog finds you, in the middle of figuring out which direction to go, which word to say to that friend, which decision to make at work, which class to sign up for, which discipline to lovingly give that child, which change to make or path to follow in your career, profession or ministry, my hope for you is this: that you “keep the main thing the main thing,” and remember that no matter what decision you make, you are His child! You are precious to Jesus every moment of every single day! He loves you, He died for you, and He has an eternal destiny waiting for you!
