A Phrase Worth Repeating

CHRIST IS RISEN, HE IS RISEN INDEED!

As I heard myself repeat this familiar phrase over and over and over again this Resurrection Sunday, I was impacted with its profound TRUTH!

Jesus appeared to His disciples after He had risen from the dead. In His resurrected, eternal body, the body that was broken for my salvation, He showed them His nail pierced hands, the hands that were pierced for my salvation! He ate with them, walked with them and spoke His final words to them, before He ascended into Heaven to return to His Father!

Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread. And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said.”

Luke 24:35-36

These powerful words were for His disciples then and for His disciples now!

They are for me, and they are for you, and they are for every follower of Jesus from now until He returns!

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the holy Spirit. And teach them to obey all the things I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, even to the end of the age.“

Matthew 28:19–20.

As I spoke those powerful words on Resurrection Sunday I realized that they are to be followed by sharing “The Greatest Story Ever Told!”

Humility Vs Pride

Today my focus began with Jesus on the cross. God quickly turned my eyes to the two criminals hanging beside Him, one on His left, and one on His right! One full of pride and the other pierced with humility!

One, so full of pride and selfishness, that he was blinded from seeing that hanging right beside him was the son of God.

The other, full of humility that allowed him to see past his horrific circumstances to view the Savior of the world, God‘s one and only son, hanging right beside him!

One, so full of pride and selfish ambition that he can’t see past himself as he cries out,

One of the criminals began to shout insults at Jesus: ‘Aren’t you the Christ?’ Then save yourself! And save us too!’” Luke 23:39

But the other criminal stopped him. He said, ‘You should fear God! You are getting the same punishment as he is. We are punished justly; we should die. But this man has done nothing wrong!’” Then this criminal said to Jesus, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!’”

Luke 23:40-42

Jesus speaks to him,

Then Jesus said to him, ‘Listen! What I say is true; today you will be with me in paradise!’” Luke 23:43

Two men in the same proximity to Jesus.

One on his left side and one on his right.

One looked only with his physical eyes and saw through his pride, a mere man who could help him out of his horrible circumstance.

The other looked past his physical eyesight and with spiritual vision saw the Son of the Living God!

With humility and conviction of sin he defended and proclaimed his belief.

TODAY IS THE DAY!

No matter how you look at it, we only have TODAY!

Yesterday already happened and we are not guaranteed that tomorrow will ever come.

I was taught by my Grammie to put two feet on the floor as I was getting out of bed and say out loud,

“THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE, I WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT!”

She taught me by example two very powerful truths!

First, that every day that I wake up is a gift from God!

And second, that I can make a choice to claim that day as good for God’s glory and purposes!

It is a statement of faith that sets my will in alignment with God’s will!

It is not dependent on my circumstances or anything that happens to me that day. It is a choice and a claim to live my day for JESUS!

I read something recently that reminded me of these powerful truths that my Grammie taught me. I loved the way it was put into practical and useful terms!

“There are two things we have everyday when we wake up, a chance and a choice.

Every morning we have the opportunity to decide whether we will follow where the Lord is leading us or turn the other way. Not an easy decision in many situations but making the choice to follow Him will produce incredible blessings in our life.”

God‘s Word affirms that when we choose life we will truly LIVE!

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; – Deuteronomy 30:19”

Let’s try to make this our practice each and everyday!

God loves us so much, He has given us the gift of choice and free will, but it is up to us to choose Him every day and His path for us. Take some time today and ask the Lord where He is leading you. What is He asking you to do right now? There is great blessing in choosing and following Him each and every day!

Our Goliaths are not a joke!

Today is April Fool’s Day but I am not joking around.

We all have “GOLIATH’S” in our lives trying to get in our way and keep us from accomplishing God’s purposes!

A “GOLIATH” is a giant! It is large and looming and mean and threatening!

It’s worry that keeps us up at night and steals our precious sleep from us.

It’s fear that haunts us and tells us over and over again that we are out of control. It’s the ugly lie of an adequacy, making us feel like we’re not enough, and we never will be. It’s the question in the back of our minds that makes us doubt. We ask ourselves should we or shouldn’t we? So we don’t. We do absolutely nothing!

GOLIATH’S are bullies! They make us feel like they are in control. They make us feel like we’re too small. They make us feel that we our weak and do not lack the strength to overcome them.

They keep us the victim and make us feel like we are not able to overcome them!

They are liars! They accuse us falsely. They are thieves! They steal, and they kill, and they destroy what God intends for good.

When that Goliath shows up at your door, do what David did. Most people looked at how big Goliath was. But David focused on HOW MUCH BIGGER GOD WAS!

The truth is, we are not able to overcome our ”GOLIATH’s,” on our own!   David said, “I come to you in the name of the LORD of heaven’s armies, whom you have defied. Today the LORD will conquer you, and I will kill you…” 1 Samuel 17:45-46 (NLT)

Friends, let’s get our eyes off of Goliath, and fix them on our great and mighty God! Nothing is impossible for Him! With

God and His strength and His power, we are MORE THAN ABLE to overcome all the GOLIATHS in our lives!

IT’S NO JOKE, OUR GOD IS BIGGER THAN ANY GOLIATH THAT WE FACE!
